Terrazzo & marble floor care with no chemicals | Video

Posted by: Christopher Theisen

Normally our process entails talking to our customer or prospect about problems with their business and then sourcing products or methods to solve those problems. We try not to push one vendor, solution or product line before we even know a problem exists. With that being said when we come across an innovation that can save people time and money we like to present it.

It is with a multitude of benefits in mind that we present to you GranQuartz diamond floor pads. Watch the embedded video below (or watch on YouTube) to get a better understanding of the product and process;

Okay. So, Chris, while we're out here today what are some of the benefits of using the diamond grind system versus a normal Terrazzo upkeep?

Well, besides reducing the annual cost to take care of the floor, the system uses no specialized equipment. It uses just standard floor buffers, standard auto-scrubbers, so there's nothing special to buy beyond the diamond tools themselves. So you reduce you chemicals, you reduce your equipment costs, and your annual cost again, reduced by 30% or better.

You can actually completely eliminate even the daily chemical by using an activated water system. So, your chemical usage drops by at least 80 or 90%.

That's great. So, I know that a lot of people with sustainability and chemical issues these days and the environment, this is a great system to not only cut out costs but also be more environmentally friendly as well.

Okay. So, Chris what are you doing right now?

We're running the 200 grit series of diamonds underneath. This is gonna be the first cut, and it's designed to flatten out the Terrazzo, if it's bumpy, and it's also designed to take out any visible scratches. We'll give a clean, non-shining floor when I'm finished.

Usually, for a first time initial, you're going to do five steps.

Okay.
How many steps is it gonna take after that?

Typically, they come back yearly and go two steps.
They do the last two steps to recover any shine that they have worked out over the year.

Yup. And all they need to
do to re-shine up that Terrazzo is just throw water down and go ahead with those last few diamond grinding pads.

While terrazzo and marble floors look great when maintained there is that slight issue of actually maintaining them. You have floor stripper, waxes and hosts of other chemicals to keep the floor looking its best. You constantly have to worry about the floor polish being nicked, scratched and dulling over time. It's a never ending job. The process to strip and re-apply chemicals is also a very time consuming, and possibly dangerous one. Chemical usage is a hot button topic right now, especially with the recent change in legislation regarding VOC (volatile organic compounds) levels in our headquarter state of Indiana and across the country. What usually happens is a school, hospital or office building neglects to keep up on either the stripping or waxing (or both) of the floors, leaving them less than optimal.

Thats where this diamond polishing system pays huge dividends. After the initial stripping there is no more stripping because there is no more wax to apply. There is no more wax to apply because you are grinding and polishing the hard stone itself. What do you think holds up better to scrapes and dulling, a hard stone floor or a soft wax? The process to bring the floors shine back is quick. Just use the two finest grits of diamond pad in conjuncture with your current floor buffer and its good as new. The time savings (and associated labor costs) are tremendous. After the first year you can expect to see a 50% cost reduction. During the first year the cost reduction is still 30% (until you can stop using the stripper)

  • You can expect;
    • Works twice as fast as traditional diamond polishing system
    • No chemicals required
    • No special equipment
    • Simple maintenance. Only autoscrubbing is required after initial treatment
    • Labor savings
    • Environmentally friendly
    • VOC regulation friendly
    • Slip resistance exceeds ADA requirements
