The FlexPAC Content Marketing Internship in Review

Internship opportunities are essential to the learning and growth process for any college student looking to gain experience in the professional world. After spending this fall semester as the Content Marketing Intern with FlexPAC, I am confident in my ability to be able to apply the skills I have obtained working with this company to any job I may have after this.

Company culture is the personality of a company. It sets the precedent of the environment that employees work. There are many factors that play into the culture a company has. FlexPAC’s work environment, values, expectations, and goals have played a major part in the success of my internship experience.

To be completely honest, I had no idea what to expect when I first began interning at FlexPAC. So, the company culture was something that was an immediate first impression for me and what my experience would be like. Being able to be introduced to each person that worked here and be greeted with friendly faces, with so many individuals wanting to offer any help I needed, I quickly knew that this would be a great experience. Prior to FlexPAC, I had no previous knowledge of what goes into marketing for a janitorial and packaging distribution company, so I was very unsure of the skills I had to offer a company of this caliber. The employees at the Indianapolis office of FlexPAC are seriously great. From the birthday celebrations to the candy drawer and unending popcorn, they have been an exceptional example of what a healthy work environment should be. Being the intern, I was always watching, paying attention to the little things, and they did not disappoint. They all possessed the willingness to provide a helping hand when needed and provide the best service to their clients and each other. If you are looking for an internship that provides a great example of willingness, togetherness, family, hardworking, and a fun environment, FlexPAC is the best for it.

As an intern, it was great to be able to gain marketing experience in ways that fit my strengths, writing. Flexibility is an important quality to have when working with any company and while social media and writing were my primary focus, I had a few tasks outside of those realms. Flexibility also comes in when you are completing tasks that you are not used to. For me, I was not used to finding and writing material for OSHA safety laws, and safety procedures, and packaging. If we are being honest here, I was struggling writing all things FlexPAC related, really, because they are a company that does so much. This was a challenge I took on with grace and not much panic because of the helping hand of Dylan. Having a great supervisor made this experience a lot easier. He was always available to answer any question I had and provide words of affirmation about the progress I was making.

A continuing goal for FlexPAC was to improve the content that they were creating as well as make the necessary changes to the existing content they had. This content included blog post and news articles. This project really put a test to my writing and editing skills. I was able to have access to previous blog posts from the current website and make edits to them, sometimes re-writing entire blogs. In order to do this successfully, I had to become familiar with each topic that was being covered in each post to make sure I was making the correct changes. I love work that pushes me out of my comfort zone, and between finding constant material to post on social media and making edits to the blog and news articles, I can say that I was constantly being challenged in the tasks that were given to me.

Although this internship is coming to an end, I cannot thank FlexPAC enough for giving me this opportunity. It was great to be a part of a well-known company and gain marketing knowledge and experience in this time. This has been a great experience, and I hope I have made as much of an impression with The PAC as they have left with me.
